Ireland has made significant changes to its lineup for the upcoming rugby match against Japan in Cork, set for Saturday, following their recent 31-24 victory in Galway. The team will see six alterations in their starting roster, with two players making their first appearance as starters.
Jane Clohessy and Niamh Gallagher are set to start for the first time, while Sophie Barrett, Kate Jordan, and Alana McInerney are prepared to earn their international debut from the bench. Key returnees include Linda Djougang, who will resume her position at loosehead prop, joining Neve Jones and Eilís Cahill in the front row. Clohessy will take her place in the lock position alongside Fiona Tuite-O’Sullivan. The scrum-half role will be filled by Emily Lane, who partners with Dannah O’Brien.
The center of the field will see Aoife Dalton’s return, teaming up with Anna McGann, while Robyn O’Connor takes on the left wing. Niamh Gallagher transitions to the full-back position, and Beibhinn Parsons remains on the right wing, maintaining her previous role.
Despite the changes, the team’s back row will have a familiar look, with Captain Erin King, Brittany Hogan, and Jemima Adams Verling retaining their positions from the last match. These strategic adjustments aim to strengthen Ireland’s performance as they face Japan once more in Cork.
