The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has crafted a bespoke luxury ring for former U.S. President Donald Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, underscoring the enduring relationship between America and Belgium’s diamond sector. This 18-karat gold ring is adorned with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies. It also features patriotic American symbols, the numbers 45 and 47, and the years 1776 and 2026. Inside, the inscription reads, “Crafted in Antwerp for Donald John Trump.”
U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White received the ring on behalf of Trump and is expected to pass it on to him. In a video message, Trump expressed his gratitude to Antwerp’s diamond community, describing the ring as the “magnificent Freedom 250 ring.”
This presentation coincides with the Belgian diamond industry’s recent success in having U.S. import tariffs on polished diamonds lifted. While the AWDC claimed it provided input to the European Commission during the trade negotiations, it denied any direct lobbying of the U.S. administration.
Independent jewelers have estimated the ring’s value to be between $25,000 and $35,000. Under U.S. legal and ethical guidelines, presidents may accept personal gifts, but those from foreign entities must adhere to constitutional and disclosure requirements. This has sparked renewed conversation about the acceptance of high-value gifts by public officials, with ethics experts raising concerns about transparency and potential conflicts of interest.
