If the internet had a pulse, Spider-Man: Brand New Day sent it racing on March 17. The trailer released by Sony that day became the fastest to one billion views in history — a record never before achieved by any movie, show, or media production. Tom Holland has now broken trailer records with two consecutive Spider-Man films, but this one is in a league far beyond anything that came before.
Deadpool & Wolverine had set a jaw-dropping record of 365 million first-day views in February 2024, overtaking No Way Home‘s 355.5 million. The gaming world also had skin in the game — Grand Theft Auto VI had earned 475 million views in 24 hours. Brand New Day surpassed all of them, collecting 718.6 million on its debut day and continuing its ascent toward a billion without pause.
WaveMetrix data showed the 1.1 billion total had been reached by Tuesday, confirming the trailer as the first in history to cross the billion-view threshold. The figures are being widely discussed across entertainment, tech, and business media as proof of how dominant Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man universe has become. No other franchise even comes close in terms of trailer performance.
The trailer’s narrative hook is a study in loss and resilience. Peter Parker’s identity was erased from the minds of everyone he knew, and four years on, he continues to protect New York from the shadows of anonymity. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk offers guidance, but the heart of the story is Peter’s battle with himself and a frightening new adversary.
Helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film lands in cinemas July 31. Its cast features Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Indian audiences will enjoy it in six languages at launch.
