Russian forces killed one person and wounded 15 others in attacks hitting critical infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv, while dialogue continued over the weekend in Abu Dhabi. The strikes disrupted heat and water services as negotiators committed to extended discussions.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned residents that the capital was “under a massive enemy attack,” directing them to remain in shelters. The bombardment targeted residential buildings and critical infrastructure, causing casualties and significant damage. Heat and water systems were knocked offline in several neighborhoods, affecting thousands of civilians.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Kharkiv faced attacks from Iranian-manufactured Shahed drones, which damaged multiple residential complexes. The drone strikes demonstrated Russia’s continued use of Iranian military technology against civilian targets. The critical infrastructure damage compounded difficulties for residents.
In Abu Dhabi, negotiators from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States agreed to continue dialogue over the weekend. The UAE foreign ministry stated the talks would span two days as part of “ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and identify political solutions to the crisis.” The commitment to weekend discussions suggested diplomatic seriousness.
President Zelensky announced that peace proposals were “nearly ready” following his meeting with President Trump. He proposed creating a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Ukrainian control, framing it as economically beneficial. President Putin met with Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while all parties remained engaged in negotiations.
